A 43 min Dance Film of navigating life through dark times... through trauma. It takes the audience through the journey of this young lady FINDING herself. To finding her JOY.
W/ no dialogue, each section has an introductory portion w/ spoken word to foreshadow what you'll be watching next.
Details of 6 sections below.
Racism/Discrimination, an action that many people may overlook as "not so serious" can truly start a journey that will take you down a road of darkness. Racism can feel confusing, frustrating, and hurtful. In the film, it was the beginning of dark times...
After experiencing Racism and Discrimination it led the main character to BEING SILENCED. Anytime she would try to speak, the people around her started silencing her. Self- Esteem is now going down quickly. With no confidence, she is now living as a human puppet. Doing what people tell her to do, Saying only what people tell her to say.
Being Silenced then led to Mental abuse. Mental abuse is meant to undermine your self-esteem and make you feel worse about yourself. It is a form of manipulation and control. This felt like the hardest phase the main character had to endure. She could not imagine life getting worse from here.
LOVE. Possession. Trust. Once the main character experienced mental abuse, she didn't even realize that she was dealing with sexual abuse in her relationship... How do you leave someone you love so much...?
She didn't see it coming...or maybe there were signs but it she was not able to see it. With her self worth at nothing...how will she come out of this darkness? Maybe she feels this is how it ends?
Watch this outstanding movie to see how she finds her JOY. It had been a scary and dark journey. But it is ultimately CELEBRATORY because it shows the audience that it's POSSIBLE TO GET OUT OF THE DARKNESS. It is possible to find your JOY after dark times.
